Panic Disorder and Panic Attacks

Panic disorder is an anxiety disorder characterised by recurrent sudden episodes of panic or fear. While everyone experiences anxiety and panic at times, individuals with panic disorder frequently and unpredictably experience anxiety, stress, and panic, often without a clear trigger.

Panic attacks typically last 5 to 20 minutes, but in rare cases, they may persist for up to an hour. The frequency of attacks varies depending on the severity of the condition, ranging from once or twice a month to several times a week.

It’s important to note that panic attacks, though frightening, are not physically harmful and rarely require hospitalization. However, symptoms of panic attacks can overlap with other conditions, making accurate diagnosis essential. If you experience symptoms resembling a panic attack, it is recommended to consult with a healthcare professional for proper evaluation and treatment.
