Person-centred Counselling

By admin

The great aspect of working in a person-centred way is when you attend a counselling session with a person-centred counsellor, you’ll be encouraged to bring your own issues to the session. The counselling is led by you and not directed by the counsellor.

Your counsellor will help you to be able to realise what resources and support that is available to you. You can then use these newfound resources to be able to work through your own issues, build your self-confidence and appreciate that you always have options. Your counsellor understands that you are the expert on yourself, as no one else knows exactly what it’s like to be you.

The great thing about having therapy is the sessions are free from judgement, no matter what is brought into the session. Therapy helps build a trustworthy relationship in which you can feel free and supported to discuss whatever is troubling you. In time it will lead you to discover your own abilities and independence so that you can manage current and future problems that may surface.

Before starting my therapy journey, I went through 3 different counsellors, and I found them all difficult to click with. However, once I found a counsellor I connected with, I found it empowering to understand things about myself that I never considered existed. Something I thought I had gotten over and worked through came up, and I could understand that they had been keeping me from growing all along. Every week, I try to be completely honest and open, no matter how scary it feels to talk about some things. My counsellor is completely free from judgment, giving me the confidence to talk about things I have never spoken about with anybody. With the addition of confidentiality, I felt safe. Sometimes I don’t have to talk about anything that I feel is heavy; I can simply rant about my week and my partner, the kids, knowing it’s space to bring whatever I want.
